Omega Launches The Seamaster Aqua Terra 30mm Collection with New Master Chronometer Movements

Twelve references in a medley of colours and materials expand the already expansive collection of Omega’s stylish all-rounder.

Omega releases a new sub-collection of its Seamaster Aqua Terra in 30mm cases with metal bracelets spread across 12 references. A classic all-rounder, the 30mm Aqua Terra models are powered by two new in-house automatic movements. Designed to fit the smaller case size, calibre 8750 and 8751 are the smallest and slimmest co-axial Master Chronometers developed to date.

The Aqua Terra appeared in 2002 and is one of the five sub-collections of the iconic Seamaster family born in 1948 (don’t miss our three-part coverage with videos). A well-engineered time-and-date watch with a depth rating of 150 metres, the Aqua Terra was modelled after the clean lines of the original Seamaster 300 from 1957. Regarded as a stylish sports watch that offers the best of both worlds, the Aqua Terra works well on and below deck, and many models feature a teak decking pattern on the dial. Available in 43mm (Worldtimer- one of the few complications), 41mm, 38mm and 34mm with mechanical movements (and 28mm with a quartz calibre), the new 30mm case size expands the already versatile offer.

The new Aqua Terra is not a scaled-down model but has been designed from scratch. With its 30mm diameter and thickness of 10.6mm, the first impression is of a sleek, well-proportioned watch. The case is predominantly polished for a more elegant appeal and features the signature lyre lugs of the Seamaster family. The 12 new references are available in various case materials and bi-colour cases: 3 models in 18k Moonshine gold, 1 model in 18k Sedna gold, 6 models in stainless steel, 2 models in bi-colour steel and Moonshine gold, and 1 model in steel and Sedna gold. Some references, such as the Moonshine gold models and the steel model with a grey dial, feature diamond-set bezels and indices.

Beady-eyed readers might have spotted the similarities between the new 30mm Aqua Terra and the 2023 Shades sub-collection. Very similar in execution, the 34mm Aqua Terra Shades are also available in a wide range of materials and dial colours, but differ slightly in terms of movement and the Broad Arrow hands.

Presented with lacquered sun-brushed dials in a host of colours and mother-of-pearl dials, the non-diamond set models share the same gold (yellow or white) hull-shaped indices as the Shades 34mm models with white Super-LumiNova in their interiors and the round aperture for the date at 6 o’clock. Unlike the Shades collection, the gold luminescent hands are dauphine style.

All 12 references come with integrated steel, gold, or two-tone steel and gold bracelets, with a mix of polished and brushed links, and a foldover butterfly clasp with a comfort-adjustment system.

The slim cases owe their refined proportions to Omega’s new Master Chronometer calibres 8750 and 8751, developed for this collection. The movements share 20mm diameters, but the thickness varies. The calibre 8750 powering the steel and two-tone steel and gold models has a thickness of 3.98mm, while the 8751 inside the gold models has a thickness of 4.08mm due to the thicker gold rotor. Both have co-axial escapements, magnetic resistance up to 15,000 gauss, bidirectional winding, a free-sprung balance with a silicon balance spring and 48-hour power reserve. Decorated with arabesque Geneva waves on the rotor and mainplate and a black balance wheel and screws, the movement can be seen through the sapphire crystal on the wave-edged caseback.

Prices, as listed in full in the technical specifications, range from EUR 6,900 for a steel model to EUR 11,600 for a two-tone steel and gold model, and EUR 42,200 for a gold reference with diamonds. More information at omegawatches.com.
