The New Amida Digitrend Open Sapphire Reveals All Its Tricks

The Digitrend makes its engine and unique display concept visible through a transparent hood.

The retro-futuristic Amida Digitrend is a horological UFO arriving straight from the 1970s. This unique driver’s watch stands out with its digital display read horizontally through an optical inverting prism. The model was brought back with a rather faithful reedition in 2024, retaining the original look and powered by a dedicated jumping hour mechanical movement based on a modern Soprod Newton P092 automatic movement. Following this successful return, the model now evolves with the cool “Open Sapphire” limited edition that allows you to discover its engine and sense the engineering trick behind its fascinating display concept.

In a nutshell, the Amida Digitrend Open Sapphire retains the same fluid shapes, proportions and dimensions (39,6mm x 39mm x 16mm) as the inaugural edition released in 2024. As its name suggests, the main novelty is that two-thirds of the case are now fashioned out of clear sapphire, allowing you to discover its mechanical movement. According to Amida, the manufacturing of this complex shaped sapphire requires no fewer than 24 hours to be milled, machined and polished.

The Amida Digitrend movement is based on a Soprod Newton P092 automatic base calibre, coupled with a proprietary jump-hour module. The flat-layed hour and minute discs are now visible through the watch’s sapphire hood, while time can still be read horizontally through the side sapphire prism that mirrors them. Extra attention has been dedicated to the movement finishing now that it is on full display, with in particular Geneva stripes, anglage and perlage.

Another sapphire crystal at the back of the watch (different from the initial model) allows you to discover the other side of the movement with its openworked rotor and its balance wheel held in place under a transversal bridge. It runs at a 4Hz frequency and boasts a 44-hour power reserve. The Amida Digitrend Open Sapphire is presented on either an alcantara strap with an orange lining and a pink buckle or a steel wide-link integrated bracelet with a folding clasp.

The unconventional Amida Digitrend has always turned heads with its bold wrist presence – now, with its movement fully on display, it draws even more attention. This Open Sapphire version is released in a limited edition of only 150 pieces. The watch is now available for order, and it is priced at CHF 4,500 (excl. taxes) or EUR 5,760 (incl. taxes). The watch will also be available through selected ambassadors – Chronopassion in Paris, Prkjt8 in Bahrain, Chronométrie Clarence in Geneva, 10 Ten Labs in Riyadh, Swiss Prestige in Taiwan, and The Limited Edition in Leicester (UK).
