The New anOrdain Model 2 Porcelain, With In-House Produced Dial
A commendable and successful effort to make horological craft fair and accessible.

anOrdain, the Glasgow-based independent watchmaker celebrated for reviving enamel artistry in contemporary timepieces, now broadens its repertoire with the Model 2 Porcelain. Building on the success of its Model 2 with the vitreous enamel dials, this new chapter sees anOrdain take a step into the world of true porcelain, developed over a three-year period in partnership with master potters from Stoke-on-Trent. The new anOrdain Model 2 Porcelain is an interesting reinterpretation of the field watch, where the brand’s signature artisanal approach finds new expression in the fragile beauty of porcelain.
The new anOrdain Model 2 Porcelain comes in a 39.5mm brushed 316L stainless steel case; it maintains the practical proportions of a tool watch, measuring 11mm in height with a 46mm lug-to-lug span. The subtle crown guard highlights the Model 2´s utilitarian concept; the domed sapphire crystal is treated with six layers of anti-reflective coating for visibility. A solid screw-in caseback offers the possibility of engraving. The watch has a 50-metre water resistance rating, qualifying it for daily wear and casual adventure.
The centre of attention here, of course, is the black-glazed porcelain dial. Crafted in-house, it’s press-moulded, glazed, and kiln-fired using traditional techniques more often found in fine ceramics than modern watchmaking. The result is a dial alive with texture, natural dimples and specks that testify to the hand-crafted process. Its deep black tone is achieved through a custom high-fire glaze infused with iron oxide, yielding a rich finish. Enhancing legibility and infusing character, the bespoke numeral typeface, developed by anOrdain’s in-house typographer, is finished with hand-painted Super-LumiNova and clean pad printing. Touches of colours are found on the hands, gold-plated for the hours and minutes, red lacquered for the seconds.
The watch is powered by the La Joux-Perret G101 automatic movement, operating at 28,800 vibrations/hour and offering a 68-hour power reserve. Model 2 Porcelain offers multiple 20mm strap choices, including premium leather straps, shell cordovan or suede, sourced from a German manufacturer with more than seven decades of experience.
The anOrdain Model 2 Porcelain is now available for order for GBP 1,800 plus VAT via the brand’s website. Production is limited to around 30 dials per month to preserve the integrity of the traditional porcelain-making process. There’s a six-month wait time and a one-watch-per-customer policy. The brand also plans to introduce a 36mm edition later in 2025. For more information, visit anOrdain’s website.

Nice watch, but the sharp second hand doesn’t match the style of the other rounded ones.
It’s a pretty watch. I don’t usually like gilt, but I like this.
Seems relatively good value and it wouldn’t surprise me if this becomes a collector’s favourite, I’m even tempted myself, great specs inc. size.
